he Rev. Kenneth Folkes, Intermediate Care Facility, located near Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, provides services mostly to adults. The adults in this program are significantly challenged mentally and/or developmentally.

This program also emphasizes the achievement of the highest level of independence possible for the Service Participants, while respecting their individuality. The goals in this program are scaled down to be performed into small increments so that the Service Participants are able to realize success more frequently. Goals are usually identified in an interdisciplinary meeting that includes the service participant.

This year, the verbal, friendly and engaging Ms. F and Ms. P are scheduled to spend six days at Virginia Beach. It will provide them with the opportunity to be involved in a much less structured environment, while relating to and enjoying the benefits of a southern environment.

Since community inclusion, independence and normalization are significant tenets in the OPWDD community, we are always excited when our Service Participants have the opportunity to experience another way of life.
